Follow @footballarchiveOne of the earliest encounters between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach, the first Bundesliga match in fact, took place in September 1965. It remains to this day one of the best between the two. A crazy back and forth finished 5-4 in Dortmund’s favor. Günter Netzer scored twice for Gladbach while Dortmund striker Lothar Emmerich netted a hattrick.
Follow @footballarchiveTo this day, no Köln/Gladbach encounter is more famous than the 1973 DFB Pokal final, won 2-1 by Gladbach thanks to Netzer’s dramatic late goal. Above are Gladbach’s Bernd Rupp challenging for the ball against Köln’s Bernd Cullmann. In the background Jupp Heynckes and Josef Kapellmann are looking on.
