bundesligaclassic: One of the earliest encounters between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach, the first Bundesliga match in fact, took place in September 1965.  It remains to this day one of the best between the two.  A crazy back and forth finished 5-4 in Dortmund’s favor.  Günter Netzer scored twice for Gladbach while Dortmund striker Lothar Emmerich netted a hattrick.

bundesligaclassic: To this day, no Köln/Gladbach encounter is more famous than the 1973 DFB Pokal final, won 2-1 by Gladbach thanks to Netzer’s dramatic late goal.  Above are Gladbach’s Bernd Rupp challenging for the ball against Köln’s Bernd Cullmann.  In the background Jupp Heynckes and Josef Kapellmann are looking on.

bundesligaclassic: A 19 year old Berti Vogts (r) against a 21 year old Jürgen Grabowski (l) in a match between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt in December 1965.  They were two of the league’s young shooting stars at that time and would both go on to become club and german football legends.
